XXXX (pronounced fourex) is a brand of Australian beer brewed in Milton, Brisbane by Queensland brewers, Castlemaine Perkins. It enjoys wide popularity in the state of Queensland, where it is commonly found on-tap in pubs and bars.

The XXXX brand was first introduced in 1924 and is a throwback to the long standing tradition of using Xs to indicate the strength of an ale. The brand name also built upon XXX Sparkling Ale introduced in 1878. The brand is used on the XXXX Bitter, XXXX Gold, XXXX Light Bitter (Lager),XXXX DL (Diet Lager) and Sovereign (Lager).

Previously sold beers, currently not available, include Thirsty Dog (Wheat Beer) XXXX Draught/Original Draught, and XXX Sparkling Ale which is only sold at the XXXX alehouse next to the brewery.

Braun, commonly pronounced as “braun” in English), formerly Braun AG, is a German consumer products company based in Kronberg, Germany.

From 1984 until 2005, Braun was a wholly owned subsidiary of The Gillette Company, which had purchased a controlling interest in the company in 1967. Braun is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Procter & Gamble, which acquired Gillette in 2005. On 16th April 2012, the Italian company De’Longhi acquired the household part of Braun from Procter & Gamble.

Yardley of London is a traditional British soap and perfume brand and is one of the oldest in the world List of oldest companies. Established in 1770, Yardley was a major producer of soap and perfumery by the beginning of the 20th century. By 1910, it moved to London’s Bond Street, and in 1921 Yardley received its first Royal Warrant. Today, Yardley holds two Royal Warrants.

Currently, its product range consists of perfume, bath and body luxuries, skin care, and hair care products. The colour cosmetics range of Yardley has been discontinued.

Britain’s fifth richest Asian family, the Jatanias, bought out Yardley in October 2005 for £60 million and integrated it into its Lornamead company.

Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting acquired Yardley in certain markets including Asia, Middle East, Australasia as well as North and West Africa for $45.5 million.

John Smith’s Brewery was founded in 1758 by Backhouse & Hartley at Tadcaster in North Yorkshire, England. John Smith bought the brewery in 1847. John Smith’s is the sixth highest selling beer brand in the United Kingdom, and the highest selling ale brand. It is the highest selling bitter in the world.

The company grew to be one of the largest regional brewers in the country. It was taken over by Courage in 1970 and is currently owned by Heineken.

John Smith’s is the largest commercial sponsor of horse racing in the UK, including the Grand National since 2005. It is also well known for a series of highly successful television advertising campaigns, featuring the actor Gordon Rollings during the 1980s, and the comedians Jack Dee during the 1990s and Peter Kay since 2002.

1980s Cadburys Flake (women in boat)

Flake is a brand of chocolate bar currently manufactured by Cadbury and consists of thinly folded Dairy Milk, milk chocolate.

The product was first developed in 1920 and was founded by an employee of Cadburys. When the excess from the moulds was drained off, it fell off in a stream and created folded chocolate with flaking properties.

Since 1922 in Britain, Australia and Ireland ice cream vendors serve “99 Flakes” which are vanilla soft serve ice cream in a wafer cone in which a half size Flake bar is inserted in the top. Screwballs are similar but have a plastic cone rather than a wafer.
