Now That’s What I Call Music 4 or Now 4 was released in 1984. The album is the 4th edition of the (UK) Now! series. This album reached #2 on the UK Albums Chart, kept off the top by the newly premiering Hits album series.Also notable is that this volume marked the first Now album to be released on Compact Disc. It was seemingly a test run as the single-CD contained a selection of tracks from Now 2, Now 3 and Now 4, collecting 15 tracks altogether. It wasn’t until two years later in 1986 that a Now compilation was next released on CD, with a single-CD issue of Now 8. Continue reading

Devised by Ashley Abram of Box Records (a consultancy specialising in producing compilations), the series took its name from an advertising poster for Danish meat products which showed a pig listening to a whistling cockerel. The pig became the Now! series’ mascot for a while, making its last appearance on Now That’s What I Call Music 5. Continue reading

Published July 25, 2008 | Now That’s What I Call Music 3 or Now 3 was released in 1984. The album is the 3rd edition of the (UK) Now! series. It was the third consecutive album of the series to reach #1 in the UK, staying there for 8 weeks, the longest run at number 1 out of any Now albums on the UK Albums Chart until the Compilations Chart was created in 1989. It was also the 300th album to reach number 1 in the chart’s history.

Now That’s What I Call Music or Now 1 is the first album from the popular Now! series that was released in the United Kingdom in 1983. Initial pressings were released on vinyl and audio cassette, with a re-release on CD in 2008, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the album and series. It reached number one on the UK Albums Chart.
Becoming one of the biggest albums of the year, it became one of only a few compilation albums to reach #1 on the UK & Ireland album chart, staying there for four consecutive weeks and five in all. It also went 3x platinum, selling over 900,000 copies. Continue reading
